Our first Pinot Noir vines were planted 6 years ago now. Piers Greenwood, the ‘uncle of East Anglian Wine’, has blended this with Dornfelder, Accolon and our Rondo grapes. The result is velvet soft, very fruity and mellow for a British Red, and is delicious with cold beef, salads, cheeses and is fantastic with spice. This particular blend has hints of vanilla, great ripeness, acidity and less tannins. The cherry coloured 2012 was released at Christmas and has the transulcent characteristics of a pale Burgundian wine but with intense flavours and fruit.
Do not expect a Bordeaux, this is English red, and we don’t have the same climactic conditions, so it is lighter with a low alcohol content. Our local tasting team, (our neighbours) really like this wine as a ‘vin de pays’ equivalent. Some have enjoyed it chilled which is becoming more of a trend with lighter, pinot noir style, red wines. We are looking forward to the release of our 2013 Pinot Noir later this year, a characteristic Pinot, it is more garnet in colour and is very promising. We have a large local following for this wine so most of it will be sold at our cellar door.
